MpxTool Example Applications Print
  • Monitor your on-air signal or the competition's!
Using a tuner with MPX output, MpxTool can be used as an off-air modulation monitor and analyzer. Is the competition cheating? Find out!
  • Compare two or more audio processors in a carefully controlled shootout. Record the output of each processor separately (with common program material) and play them back in MpxTool, switching on the fly, with phase linear reference quality stereo decoder, and a whole suite of modulation monitoring equipment built in. You can also output composite, to feed an exciter and listen on an actual tuner.
  • Output Composite for temporary on-air use. For example, you could use a laptop at the transmitter site to play pre-recorded composite and stay on the air, while you're servicing the STL or replacing an audio processor.
  • Calibrate and optimize your own airchain. The oscilloscope will let you see exactly what you're doing while you're adjusting your audio processor. The spectrum analyzer will show whether the pilot and subcarriers are being sufficiently protected. The RF display will help you make sure the FM carrier does not use excessive bandwidth, which may cause not only multipath and fringe reception problems, but also interference.
  • Make an educated guess about what main audio processor a station is using.
Different audio processors use different filter and clipper implementations, and their footprints all look different on a spectrum analyzer.
